When pool water has a low total alkalinity, it is difficult to maintain the pH of the water in the proper range of 7.2 to 7.6. This difficulty is commonly referred to as "pH bounce." Low total alkalinity causes pitting, etching and weakening of plaster pool surfaces as well as corrosion of metal fixtures in the pool. Usage: 1� pounds of Total Alkalinity Increaser will raise the total alkalinity of 10,000 gallons of water about 10 ppm. Total alkalinity should be maintained in the range of 50 to 110 ppm unless the hardness of the pool water is above 200 ppm, in which case, total alkalinity should be in the range 50 to 80 ppm.
